URGENT: Support NAICS Code Modernization for the Events Industry TODAY!

Share this Post:

Join ESTA and the Exhibitions & Events Workforce Development Federation (EE-WDF) in advocating for critical updates to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) to recognize the events industry as a distinct sector within the Leisure and Hospitality Super Sector. This change will reflect the industry’s $1 trillion annual contribution to the U.S. economy and the 5.9 million jobs we support.

Why It Matters:

  • Economic Impact: Proper classification unlocks resources and fosters policy development.
  • Workforce Development: Aligns resources for training skilled professionals.
  • Post-Pandemic Recovery: Strengthens tourism, jobs, and local economies.
  • Innovation: Captures the evolution of hybrid and virtual events.

The EE-WDF is submitting a proposal in February to update the NAICS codes to include our industry. They will be compiling letters of support as part of this proposal. To make sure your letter makes it into the proposal, take action by Friday, January 17. You can:

  • Write a support letter yourself using this sample letter.
  • Find your elected officials and request a letter of support from them.
  • Reach out to other industry leaders and stakeholders to request that they write a letter of support.
  • Share on social media using #ModernizeNAICSforEvents.

Please email letters to [email protected]. They will be included in the proposal to update the NAICS codes. Visit EE-WDF.org to learn more, connect, and donate.

Together, we can secure the recognition and resources the events industry deserves.
