More details from USITT

USITT 2020 will showcase the world of live entertainment design and technology with more than 340 exhibitors showing off their latest products and services, plus over 250 presentations, demonstrations, and celebrations of work by top artists in the field.

A complement of Professional Development Workshops will take place in tandem with USITT 2020 including workshops such as console training, costumes, puppetry, and a local tour of Houston arts facilities. A full listing and registration information can be found here.

The Institute will also be celebrating its diamond anniversary during the Houston event as it celebrates its first 60 years, a milestone that has sparked a thriving giving campaign and provides an opportunity to set goals for the next six decades as USITT builds upon past accomplishments.

Registration for USITT 2020 is now in its very-early phase offering attendees the deepest discounts until Dec. 5, 2019. Housing for USITT 2020 is filling at record speed, but rooms are still available in a variety of hotels surrounding the Conference location. Accommodations can be booked through USITT’s housing partner, Connections Housing. This is the only way to ensure safe and secure housing for your time in Houston.

With its sheer size, diverse community, thriving theatre scene, and central location, Houston is the perfect location for USITT 2020. The show is projected to have an economic impact of $2.5 million on the city.

“Our 60th Anniversary Conference is shaping up to be an engaging week of learning and networking,” said USITT Executive Director, David Grindle. “In the 13 years since we were last in Houston, the convention center district has grown to a vibrant place full of restaurants and activity. The programming is a mix of lecture and hands-on training aimed at enhancing every stage of a career — from students and beginners to seasoned veteran professionals.”

Five of the cultural districts in Texas are in Houston where the city’s nonprofit arts and culture industry generates more than $1.1 billion in total economic activity each year. Houston is one of only a few U.S. cities with resident professional companies in the four disciplines of the performing arts: ballet, opera, symphony, and theatre. There are more than 500 institutions devoted to the performing and visual arts, science, and history in the Houston area. In addition to the arts, quality eateries are never too far away. With more than 10,000 restaurants, Houston is a world-class foodie destination.

We are pulling out all the stops to make our 60th anniversary gathering one for the record books. Don’t miss it!
