IOWA CITY, IA – We the Kings filled their April with weekend college fly dates. After wrapping up their 10th anniversary tour for their self-titled album, they took LD Nathaniel Beckett with them and a bright Astera LED light rig. Most of the college shows had a very minimal lighting package supplied by the schools, so the 16 Astera AX1s and eight Astera AX3 Lightdrops provided the much-needed eye candy for the punk rock performances.

Each show had a different arrangement for the AX1s depending on stage size and if the venue had provided extra truss. The band had a lot of input on the fixture arrangement as well. They loved how much the effects would change if we would align the AX1s differently on stage.
The best thing about this package is how quick load in and out have become. With all the lights being battery powered and wirelessly controlled, zero time is wasted by myself or the stage hands by wrapping endless cabling. I preprogrammed all the cues on a tablet via the Astera App and wirelessly transmitted to all fixtures using the ART7 AsteraBox belt pack. With all these fly dates, the Astera charging cases are lightweight for travel at 49.5lbs, which doesn’t break the bank with overweight bag fees.
The next We the Kings performances will be at the Slam Dunk Festival in the UK May 27-29.
