NASHVILLE — Hard rock band Shinedown recently wrapped their Carnival of Madness tour with a lighting package provided by Bandit Lites. The tour included performances by Bandit client Halestorm, Black Stone Cherry and Whiskey Myers and featured Shinedown’s most recent album Threat to Survival, which topped Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart and included the hit single, “Cut the Cord.”

Lighting director Carter Fulghum has worked with Shinedown for about four years, saying, “They are great guys to work with and make everyone feel very welcome in the camp. They take pride in the show and give you constant feedback about what they want and how they want it to look, which is great because it takes all the guess work out of it.”
For the Carnival of Madness tour, lighting designer Sooner Routhier used VL 3000s to adorn the two downstage trusses for front wash and specials. Clay Paky B-EYES wash the stage and add accent effects, while Nitros and the Chauvet’s new Rogue R1 FX-B are situated in ladders for accent and back light. Additional back lighting comes from Elation ACL 360i, while Martin MAC Sceptrons play video content from a High End Catalyst system and Vipers provide texture and big beam looks.
“Sooner Routhier did a great job building each song to have its own personality and ability to stand on its own,” said Fulghum, “But if I had to pick a song that had the most looks in it that I liked, I would pick “How Do You Love;” I really like the colors and how all of the units work together in that song.”
Fulghum acknowledged one of the biggest challenges was adapting the rig to fit in the varying venue spaces, but Bandit’s experienced crew, including Ty Veneziano, Jimmy Murray, Jessie Hochinyavong and Elizabeth Weller, worked to ensure everything both fit properly and kept the show’s look intact.
Bandit is incredibly proud to work with Shinedown, a sentiment that Bandit Chair Michael T. Strickland expressed saying, “I first met Shinedown in 2004, and fell in love. This is one of the best bands in the world. Period. Shinedown rocks harder, plays better and touches your senses like no other hard rock act. In addition to providing lighting to Shinedown, Bandit also supplied a package for American rock band Halestorm. Lighting designer Julie Cox utilized Martin MAC Vipers, Clay Paky Sharpys, GLP X4S, CUEPIX Blinder WW2s, Martin Atomic 3000 Strobes and Bandit 5x5s to illuminate the epic sounds of front woman Lzzy Hale.
