HOLLISTER, MO — Blue Planet Lighting, which acquired fogging gear along with other equipment previously owned by Theatreworks, a former competitor, has announced plans to donate as many as 75 nearly-new LeMaitre Stage Fogger DMX units to Missouri fire departments seeking the gear for their training exercises. The units carried a list price near $1,200, which would give the total donation a value of $90,000, according to Blue Planet’s Mike Gormley. They were used for a three-week engagement and have not been used since, he added.
Mike Novak, training chief at Branson Fire & Rescue, one of many fire departments expressing interest in the gear, called the donation “a fantastic offer since actual live fire training is getting harder to do and simulations are how we train mostly. In hard economic times, this type of donation will help our Training Division greatly.”
Charlie Neubert, board member of the Fire Fighters Association of Missouri, noted that “the impact of artificial smoke during training is extremely beneficial to firefighters” and also lauded Blue Planet for the donation.
The foggers were made by Le Maitre Special Effects, which has since changed its name to Ultratec Special Effects.
