Calvary Chapel Melbourne Using Dimmable LED House Lighting

VIERA, MERRITT ISLAND, FL — Although a mix of traditional incandescent and fluorescent light sources would have met Calvary Chapel Melbourne’s  restrictions on watts per square foot for the sanctuary for its  newest house of worship, the resulting quality of light was a concern. To meet the additional goal of providing a theatre-like quality of light, the project’s LD, Steve Arnold, director of systems design and development with Candela Controls Inc., recommended an LED down-light solution using 80 of Affineon Lighting’s DL series of LED down lights in conjunction with a white light dimmable DMX electronic theatre control system.

Candela Controls, Inc. is also designing a custom network, giving each of the 80 fixtures a unique digital address, which will allow for isolated control and full dimming capabilities.

As planned, the installation is expected to not only met the watts per square foot criteria, but to safeguard the integrity of the light quality as well, even when dimmed.  The long lamp life of LEDs also addressed another concern, lamp replacement and maintenance costs.

The fixtures are currently being staged and tested at Candela’s facility prior to installation. Fixture installation begins mid July 2009 with an anticipated project completion date later this year.
