LAS VEGAS — Israeli dubstep producer DJ Borgore recently debuted his 2012 tour at the Electric Daisy Carnival, mixing rhythms from inside a custom-made ice cream truck built of CHAUVET Professional MVP 18 video panels. The Borgore Cream Machine made its big entrance at EDC entertaining enthusiastic crowds, and will go on tour again in the fall in US cities. The event was spiced up by pole dancers on picnic tables and big custom-made ice cream cones placed on stage that shot cream at the audience.

A concept of VJ Morgan Lavery, owner of Infinight Productions, the idea of the Borgore Cream Machine was to make Borgore appear to drive inside an ice cream truck, equipped with real 30-inch rims that moved and spun around on motors.

Forty-seven MVP 18 panels covered the main façade of the truck and 18 made up the rear screen behind the DJ booth, while two were modified for the front of the machine. “We built the truck specifically for the MVP 18 frame, as it can work with just about anything,” said Collyns Stenzel, technical director for the tour and owner of Advanced Concert Productions, LLC, which specified the panels. “Also, I modified two video panels to fit the front of the truck—made them 6 inches wide and left them at an initial height of 2 feet.”

The Cream Machine has real headlights and taillights, a steering wheel, a dashboard and all the trimmings. “We had to come up with a concept that would look great on stage, and we can also take on the road and set into a trailer,” Lavery said. To complete the picture, a fiberglass cone installed on top of the car with a built-in speaker plays the characteristic music of an ice cream truck.

“Originally we were looking for something brighter than projection screens,” Lavery said. “Since CHAUVET MVP 18 video panels have already been used in the Dayglow show, we thought it was already a good thing to go with CHAUVET for this project. The panels are consistent, bright and easy to use.”

With the wheels spinning, and the video graphics displayed on the facades made of MVP 18 video panels, the Borgore Cream Machine created the illusion of movement and depth. “My team came up with the concept to drive the truck into different worlds, such as hell land, candy land, underwater ride, space travel, videogame world and sex land,” Lavery said.

VJ Infinight has performed and developed content with the top DJs in the world including Avicii, Skrillex, Rusko, Steve Aoki, Nero, Datsik, Porter Robinson and he is the exclusive VJ/Content Developer for The Crystal Method.

“I can’t wait to get this Cream Machine out on the road,” Stenzel said. “It’s going to be great.”
