PARK CITY, UT – Land Rover North America partnered with Dallas-based production company Corporate Magic to stage a reveal of its fourth generation new flagship model, unveiled Oct. 22 to its North American retailers. The event took place outdoors with meetings taking place indoors – requiring two different productions.
The reveal event, which coincided with the manufacturer’s 25th anniversary in North America, featured a video projection on the side of a mountain at the Montage Deer Valley Resort in Park City, UT.
Said Stephen Dahlem, Corporate Magic’s senior creative director, “We picked the mountain setting to show off the vehicle’s design, off-road capability and performance. They asked us to think outside the box for virtually every aspect of the event.”
Outside, the focal point of the show was a custom built 15 x30 ft. screen that could raise and lower to the ground using a cable motor system. The screen split in the middle to allow a car to drive through it and then close and lower to the ground. It had to be strong enough for the high winds on the mountain.
The screen projection and the 3D-shaped projection on the mountain side were performed by six Barco HD 20K projectors rigged from a balcony and a scenically-designed scaffold tower.
Corporate Magic used various LED color blocks and enough moving lights to light a forest. They also used five spot lights to highlight the cars as they came down the mountain side to the custom stage. The stage was flanked by two 5×10-ft Lighthouse 8mm LED screens in custom tower structures to match the Montage Deer Valley Resort. Argyle, TX-based GoVision supplied all the outdoor screens.
For the retailer meetings, Corporate Magic constructed a 270-degree wraparound screen (measuring 149 ft) in the Grand Ballroom at the resort to give the more than 200 attendees a sensory experience and build enthusiasm for the official launch of the flagship model. The projection – run through a Watchout system – used seven Barco HD 14K projectors. Corporate Magic created the projection by recording sweeping video images with a five-camera panoramic camera set-up and stitching the images together to form a single wide video image.
