INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Over 111 million viewers tuned into NBC to watch Super Bowl XLVI and the Bridgestone Halftime Show featuring Madonna, LMFAO, M.I.A., Nicki Minaj and Cee Lo Green. The halftime show was lit by Al Gurdon and featured a production design by Bruce Rodgers of Tribe, Inc. The show’s large cast performed Cirque du Soleil influenced-choreography on 43 modular pieces handled by some 500 stagehands, with load-in and load-out (pictured here) taking place in nine and 10 minutes, respectively. PLSN editor Justin Lang and Stage Directions editor Jacob Coakley followed the action as it happened, tweeting live on Twitter.
The lighting, provided by PRG, included over 200 Clay Paky Sharpy units along with PRG Bad Boys, Vari*Lite VL3500s, and A.C. Entertainment’s Chroma-Q Color Blocks. All Access Staging & Productions built the stage.
Along with the headliners, choreography, lighting and staging, video played a key role. LMG Inc., which partnered with DWP Live, provided 800 tiles of FLED FL-io11 tiles for the stage, with video imagery complemented by projections from 32 Barco 20K HD20 projectors positioned 150 feet above the stage.
PLSN will be featuring a complete wrap-up and interviews of the production staff of the Halftime show in the March issue. If you missed the halftime show, you can view the 13-minute show on YouTube.com:
