TOKYO – No firm dates have been announced, but Insomniac Events is planning to launch its first Electric Daisy Carnival event in the Tokyo area in July 2016. The announcement comes as rival EDM-oriented music events proliferate around the world.

Insomniac’s first Electric Daisy Carnival, which has roots in 1990s warehouse rave events in Los Angeles, grew dramatically in the late 2000s and expanded with events elsewhere in North America, Puerto Rico and the U.K. The company’s flagship EDC event moved from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 2011. The first South American EDC will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil Dec. 4 and 5.

Rivals like the Ultra Music Festival, which started off as a one-day event in 1999 accompanying Miami’s Winter Music Conference, moved from Miami’s South Beach to Bayfront Park in 2001. From there, UMF has expanded globally with both its full-fledged Ultra Music Festivals and smaller “Road to Ultra” events.

Ultra Music Festival Japan 2015Along with Ultra Japan, set for Sept. 20-21, 2015 in Tokyo’s Odaiba Ultra Park, upcoming Ultra Music Festivals are slated for Bali, Indonesia (Sept. 24-25, 2015); Ibiza, Spain (Oct. 4); Santiago, Chile (Oct. 10), with additional events planned for Brazil, South Africa, Argentina, Korea and Croatia along with the Miami event (March 18-20, 2016).

Ultra’s recent and upcoming “Road to Ultra” festivals have also been staged or planned for Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, Thailand and Macau.
