Electric Zoo Cut Short Again, This Time from Bad Weather

NEW YORK – The last day of the three-day Electric Zoo Festival 2013 on Randall’s Island here was canceled after two attendees who had used a party drug died. For the 2014 event, also scheduled for three days, precautions against drug use were ramped up, and there were no reported fatalities. But this year, severe weather moved in, forcing an evacuation.

“We apologize to fans, but your safety is our main concern,” tweeted festival organizers just before 5 p.m. on Aug. 31, the third day of the 2014 festival. “Electric Zoo NY has shut down for the remainder of the festival due to extreme weather conditions. Please follow all NYPD and #Ezoo security instructions.”

Artists slated for the final six hours of festival performances included Kaskade, Alesso, Chase & Status and dozens of other DJ and EDM acts. The cancellation took place after a flash flood watch had been issued for the area.
