AVG installs Dazers to help press conferences meet broadcast standards.

COLUMBIA, SC – As the primary legal advisor to South Carolina’s state government and chief law enforcement office, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson is no stranger to the public spotlight, often having to host press conferences in his Columbia-based office when legal issues arise.
Recently that “spotlight” got a little brighter thanks to the addition of four elektraLite Dazer LED fixtures installed by Advanced Video Group (AVG), a custom-design AV integrator also headquartered in the state’s capital.
Last year, Wilson approved a recommendation for better lighting to be installed in the room he uses to meet with the media. The space’s previous lighting setup was solely comprised of ceiling fluorescents that were deemed inadequate by television crews to meet broadcast quality standards.
“There was no directional lighting,” explains Adam Dox, AVG’s vice president of sales and system design, who notes that the space also serves as Wilson’s main conference room and for video conferencing.
AVG was under contract with the SC Attorney General to update the current communication space when the lighting need was brought to its attention. “We’ve had a longstanding relationship with the AG and have worked on numerous projects with his staff over the years. Our recommendations regarding design, product, and functionality are typically respected and well received,” Dox says.
elektraLite’s Dazer fixtures were chosen by AVG to properly illuminate individuals speaking at the podium and provide back fill for AG supporting staff and guests typically present at such photo ops.
“We were able to specify the fixtures based upon the need and requirement, and they were at a price-point attractive to the end user,” he explains. “Corporate accounts are typically more responsive to price, and government accounts are generally more responsive to quality. The reason is that corporate’s main objective is turning a profit, while government is usually working with a budget and optimizing performance based on the task on hand.”
Just as important, however, the Dazers also needed to fit the spec for being compatible with the Crestron control system, and the fixtures’ control is based upon the DMX512 standard for digital communication. “The client can recall presets for a press conference or general meeting, or manually adjust settings as bright or dim as they want. It was designed for simplicity as its core,” Dox notes, pointing out that after nearly nine months of use now, the new lights have been a boon to the government and media alike.
Dox further commended the support of Farmingdale, New York-based Group One Limited, which distributes elektraLite’s products. “The integration of the product was seamless with no issues, which correlated to a project that delivered on time and on budget,” he sums up.
