Event Tech Supports Earth Day Concert with Chauvet Gear

WASHINGTON DC – The Earth Day Network marked the 40th anniversary of the eco-minded day at the National Mall in support of the Climate Rally, a nine-hour event which drew up to 150,000 people. The rally included performances from Sting, John Legend, the Roots, Honor Society, Fall out Boys' Patrick Stump and Passion Pit and speeches given by Reverend Jesse Jackson and Avatar director James Cameron among others.

Baltimore, Md.-based Event Tech provided full production and production management for the rally, and used an assortment of Chauvet LED fixtures to light the stage while keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum.

Event Tech selected 24 COLORado 3 as blinders, 24 COLORado 1B for back lights, with 30 COLORado Batten 72 Tours on the upstage truss and ground for accent lighting.

The 2010 event marked the third year that Event Tech was involved, "with responsibilities increasing each year," said vice president Mike Aug, who served as the event's production manager.

Aug said that when it came to lighting, the biggest drawback was competing with the sun, because the stage faced west and "it was a day time event for the most part, ending around 7:15 p.m."

Although natural sunlight is about the only form of lighting with a positive carbon footprint, Aug was grateful that it wasn't out in force for Earth Day 2010 in the Washington area. "It was an overcast day," helping the lights "looked good on camera," he noted.

Aug also credited Chauvet for its gear. "We recently purchased the COLORado Batten for two events, partially with Earth Day in mind, for true color correction, and LED was an obvious choice as opposed to conventional lighting," adding that Chauvet "helped us through set up and offered remedies and solutions.

"The fixtures," Aug added, "performed flawlessly for the show."
