SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, Quebec — Following a tempestuous season of outdoor festivals worldwide, the Berger Group, makers of Mega-Stage products, have introduced outdoor stages designed for higher resistance to powerful winds. The company said that its MK4 stage, among the world’s largest, is designed to withstand winds of up to 120 km/h (80 mph) with the wind walls in place and 160 km/h (100 mph) without wind walls.
The MK4, first used last fall by Evenko for a free concert featuring Arcade Fire at the Quartier des Spectacles in downtown Montreal, exceeds the new temporary building code standards for the greater Montreal region, according to Berger Group. The company added that the MK4’s sturdiness has been certified by two independent engineering firms.
Mega-Stages’ 55x50x40 have also undergone similar engineering modifications to match the wind resistance specs of the MK4, also exceeding industry standards.
Berger Group, which recently underwent consultations with its partners and clients, also announced revisions in their operating emergency plans. The company has also worked closely with the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (Québec Building Board) to ensure that all changes maintain the security of its stage installations.
Berger Group/Mega-Stage products have been used at major festivals in Canada including Osheaga, Festival d’été de Québec, the Ottawa Bluesfest, Just For Laughs, the Country Music Festival in Barrie, the International Hot Air Balloon Festivals of St-Jean and Gatineau and the 125th anniversary of Vancouver.
