CHICAGO — PRG’s Corporate and Trade Show Services supported the 30,000-square-foot booth for Heidelberg USA at the Print 09 trade show at McCormick Place. LD Jim Terry of Keynote Lighting & Design, whose design called for 137 automated lights, credited PRG’s Series 400 power and data distribution system for keeping costs in check. Using three S400 racks with 208V modules and breakout boxes, the automated fixtures were hung, cabled and tested in two and a half days with a four-person crew, reducing Heidelberg’s labor costs by over 50 percent from previous years.
“We saved at least two and a half days of labor,” said Terry. “Normally, we would have to make data looms, both a main and a backup in the shop, and then include the time to troubleshoot on site. The S400 system was plug and play. The whole system worked perfectly, right out of the box.”
Production electrician Kerry Keenan also appreciated the simplicity of the installation and the reduction in both the amount of cable required and man hours needed by delivering both the power and the data in a single cable.
“I build a lot of trade show booths that are tight on space,” he noted. “Usually our cables are being run through signs and walls, so having only one cable is definitely an advantage in the trade show market. Plus having the ability to address the DMX universes right on the rack eliminates opto-splitters.”
Along with lighting, PRG supplied audio and the plasma video displays.
“We were absolutely satisfied with their work,” said Mark Wendling, director, marketing communications for Heidelberg USA. “We have been with them for over 10 years now, so we knew that they were right for this job.”
