LAS VEGAS — During the first week of June, dozens of local and regional lighting companies around the U.S. and Canada have been nominated for the annual Hometown Hero awards competition. For PLSN’s July and August issues, we’re also now rounding up crew and gear lists for our monthly Showtime feature.
Each year, PLSN honors regional lighting companies with our Hometown Hero awards. These awards honor the best small companies in six regions across North America: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest and Canada. Readers then get to decide who’s really the best during the month of July, when they vote on which company most deserves to win the honor from each region.
By September, the regional winners are announced, and the six finalists appear on the Parnelli Awards ballot. Voting for the Parnelli Awards takes place throughout the month of September and the Hometown Hero Lighting Company of the Year award gets presented at the Parnelli Awards, set this year for Oct. 22 at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
It all starts with a nomination, which is due by July 1. (Yes, you can nominate your own company.)
Another way to give a yourself (and co-workers) a nice pat on the back is to submit a photo, list of crew members and gear list to PLSN’s monthly Showtime print feature. We publish six of these mini-features every month profiling all kinds of events, from huge touring productions to not-so-huge events.
Our sister publication, FRONT of HOUSE, for example, also has a Showtime feature for the audio crew. In the June issue, they profiled a private event simply titled “Luke’s Bar Mitzvah.” (Hey, nothing wrong with that. Judging from the photo, the lighting was at least as awesome as the sound).
So here are the links. Submit a nomination and/or Showtime event today!
