Illness Cuts Adele Tour Short; Design Included Martin MAC 101s, MAC 700 Profiles

LOS ANGELES — A bad case of laryngitis may have forced the cancellation of the last nine sold-out North American performances by British vocalist Adele, but before the tour was cut short, LD Rob Sinclair and Upstaging supported the performances with a rig that used Martin MAC 101s for backdrop lighting and MAC 700 Profiles overhead.

The visuals included a series of warm lampshades, and Sinclair, who uses the lighting more for mood and performer lighting than effect, credited the compact, 3.7kg MAC 101s, with a calibrated RGB color mixing system for holding up “really well.”

U.K.-based Neg Earth provided the lighting gear for the spring European leg of the Adele 21 tour. Upstaging handled the North American dates that ran from mid-May until Adele was told by doctors to rest her voice for a few weeks, starting in early June. The tour was scheduled to return to Europe for a series of shows this fall; no word yet on whether the cancelled U.S. dates would be rescheduled.
