BURBANK, CA – Impact Video was called upon to provide the Nickelodeon TV Network with Large Screen Video Displays for the 2011 Kids Choice Awards. This year’s show was broadcast live on April 2, 2011 from the Galen Center at USC in downtown Los Angeles where talent from across the entertainment industry gathered to honor their youngest fans. The Kids were in control as their voting across all categories determined the evening’s winners.
Production Designer, Steve Bass of Los Angeles, CA based Hasbas Entertainment, explained that the set design was “inspired by Japanese pop consumerism. The bright lights and bold colors you might see in Tokyo. Video content is such an important element in communicating the stylistic frenzy of that market.”
The primary video elements included three 13’h x 24’w double stacked Barco 20,000 Lumen HD Rear Projection displays, an upstage 15.76’h x 36.68’w and another 7.88’h x 13.1’w Panasonic HD Astrovision LED screen and seven columns of 19.73’hx 6.57’w Martin LC 2140 LED displays. Additional video elements included elation 1024 SMD LED panels mounted to circular trusses and eight Panasonic 42″ HD Plasma displays mounted to podiums on the multi-level performance stage.
All of the Video displays integrated a myriad of video elements that allowed the Nickelodeon Network to make great use of the multiple screen elements for presenter packages and video playback during live performances. All video screens were used to either playback awards packages, display video backgrounds for changing set looks and show logos or the live image magnification of musical performances.
