ARTESIA, CA and WESTPORT, CT — The lighting industry lost two of its own in late November: Andy Figueroa Jr., 30, died after a Nov. 27 car accident in his hometown; Marvin Gelman, 84, founder of Lighting Services Inc. (LSI), an architectural lighting products manufacturer, died Nov. 29 of complications from cancer. Figueroa, known as “Andy Fig Jr.,” was the son of lighting programmer/director Andrew Figueroa, Sr. and had emerged as a prominent lighting tech/lighting director himself. Gelman, who retired from LSI in 2000, is credited for many advances in track, accent and display lighting.
