SAN FRANCISCO — Brian Scott Milne, a.k.a. “Dokie,” died Dec. 29, 2011, on his 45th birthday. He was a camera operator and LED technician, touring with Screenworks-supported productions including Justin Timberlake/Christina Aguilera (2003), Luis Miguel, Queen Latifah (2004), The Wiggles (2004-5), Rolling Stones (2006-7), The Police (2008-9), Black Eyed Peas (2009-2010) and Lenny Kravitz (2011).
Milne got his start in the entertainment industry as a stagehand for Bill Graham Presents (BGP) in 1989, worked at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA and the BGP Ambiance crew. He was a member of IATSE Locals in the Bay Area: San Jose (#134), San Francisco (#16) and Oakland (#107). Prior to the Screenworks-supported tours, he toured with the H.O.R.D.E. Festival (1994), Lilith Fair (1997) and Sheryl Crow (1998).
While touring with Lenny Kravitz in France earlier this year, Milne sought medical treatment for a health issue. In early November, after returning to the U.S., the problem was diagnosed as cancer. Friends and fellow crew members quickly set up blog posts with donation links to help defray the costs of his alternative treatments in a rigorous effort to fight the rapidly-spreading disease.
“He was such a positive influence on everyone around him. Dokie was a true soldier for good and love,” noted Marty Kell, tour project manager for Danny O Video/ Screenworks NEP. Along with his generosity toward the less-fortunate, Kell recalled Milne’s gift for storytelling, sense of humor, and personal resolve. Despite the enormity of the challenges he faced in his final months, “Dokie would never give up, and never had his spirit broken.”
Milne is survived by his girlfriend, Jessica Barsotti, his mother, Helen; and a brother, Kevin.
