Jeff Johnson

CHICAGO – Jeff Johnson, a 25-year lighting design veteran and director of lighting design at Lightswitch’s Chicago studio, died Aug. 1. Johnson had been working with the design firm since 2002. He was 52.

Lightwitch posted a tribute to Johnson on the company’s website shortly after his death. It follows:

Lightswitch is heartbroken at the passing of our family member and friend Jeff Johnson.

Jeff’s ability to take a rough idea or a sketch and turn it into lighting reality was just one of the many strengths he brought to his projects. Decades of experience designing lighting systems for concerts and events made him an especially valuable asset to the Lightswitch team. His passion for cutting edge technology and close attention to detail translated into successful designs and compelling shows.

But more than that, Jeff was a compassionate, considerate and kind man, who went out of his way to try to make the lives of everyone he encountered a little better.

In August of 2019, Jeff lost a hard-fought battle with cancer. He will be missed by collaborators, clients and especially everyone at Lightswitch.
