Kohlmeyer and Mark Huber launched their company in Lincoln, NE, in 1983, first operating out of their garages. The company grew and, in 1994, TMS won major touring accounts with artists including Harry Connick Jr. and The Dave Matthews Band (DMB), which still relies upon TMS for its lighting needs. Kohlmeyer and Huber also expanded into sound, video, rigging and soft goods.
Beyond his professional life, Kohlmeyer spent much of his free time with family and friends. He was an avid skier and Husker football fan. A memorial site posted these recollections:
“Although Tim was a stoic presence and the picture of stability, he never failed to tear up during the national anthem or while watching favorite holiday movies with his family. In his last days, Tim described the three things one needs in life: faith, family, and humor. His wife reminded him that a hot wife also helps, to which he responded, ‘See, you’re part of the humor.’”
Kohlmeyer is survived by his wife, Debi, and children, Nick and Katy. Services were held in late December. The family asks that memorials be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
