Lighting and Scenic Design Tony Winners Announced at 71st Ceremony

NEW YORK – The 2017 Tony Awards, broadcast live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 11, 2017, was hosted by Kevin Spacey and once again honored backstage designers as well as those in the limelight. Top lighting honors went to Bradley King (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) and Christopher Akerlind (Indecent).

In the “Best Lighting Design of a Musical” category, the nominees included Howell Binkley (Come From Away), Natasha Katz (Hello, Dolly!), Bradley King, (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) and Japhy Weideman (Dear Evan Hansen) and the Tony went to Bradley King.

In the “Best Lighting Design of a Play” category, the nominees included Christopher Akerlind (Indecent), Jane Cox (August Wilson’s Jitney), Donald Holder (Oslo) and Jennifer Tipton (Oslo), and the Tony went to Christopher Akerlind.

In the “Best Scenic Design of a Musical” category, the nominees included Rob Howell (Groundhog Day The Musical), David Korins (War Paint), Mimi Lien (Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812) and Santo Loquasto (Hello, Dolly!), and the Tony went to Mimi Lien.

In the “Best Scenic Design of a Play” category, the nominees included David Gallo (August Wilson’s Jitney), Nigel Hook (The Play That Goes Wrong), Douglas W. Schmidt (The Front Page) and Michael Yeargan (Oslo), and the Tony went to Nigel Hook.
