Litepanels Hilio High Output LED Lighting Fixtures Illuminate Red Carpet for KTLA
LOS ANGELES – Litepanels, a Vitec Group brand, introduced the new Hilio High Output LED daylight lighting fixtures just in time to give a new look to KTLA’s red carpet coverage for the prime time television awards at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
The KTLA crew faced a low afternoon sun coming from almost directly opposite the camera position. Without additional light, exposing for faces of actors and interviewers would have resulted in a background that bloomed. The KTLA camera crew put one Hilio close to the camera itself, and one on each side. The lights were approximately 12 feet away from the talent’s on-camera position, a range at which the full output of a Hilio provides about 200 footcandles of light with a beam angle of 15 degrees.
The crew anticipated they would need to add diffusion to the Hilios, but found the light on the talent looked great without it. There was no heat thrown off by the Hilios, and because they draw just 125W maximum, the three fixtures could be powered via a standard low amperage wall socket. Weighing in at just 13 lbs (5.9 kg), the Hilios were easily hung in position.
All Litepanels LED lighting fixtures can be dimmed from 100 percent to 0 with no noticeable shift in color temperature. Because of this dimming versatility, if the sun had started to go down or was blocked by clouds, the lights could have been quickly adjusted to provide the perfect illumination. But skies were clear so the KTLA crew used the Hilios at full output throughout the telecast.
