PHILADELPHIA—The Long Reach Long Riders have received more than $35,000 in donations for this year’s ride, lifting their overall total raised since they began the ride in 2004 to more than $200,000. "We're obviously thrilled," said Bill Sapsis one of the founding members of the group.
"It's hard to believe that what we thought was going to be a one time event has grown into such a popular ride." Greg Williams, one of the organizers of this year’s ride added. "What makes reaching this goal all the more satisfying is the fact we did it during a difficult economy."
This year's ride, their sixth, begins on July 31 in Richmond, Va., and meanders through the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains before ending in Georgia on August 7. The riders all pay their own way on the trip so all of the money donated goes directly to the two charities: Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids and the ESTA Foundation's Behind the Scenes program.
