NEW YORK – MB Productions, in association with USANA Health Services, provided the lighting, video and audio package for the Health and Happiness Summit with Dr. Oz on Feb. 25 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
Billed as a “Once in a lifetime happiness expedition” led by Dr. Oz, host of the Daytime Emmy award-winning The Dr. Oz Show and one of America’s most well-known cardiac surgeons, the summit was an afternoon focused on steps to living a healthier, happier, more fulfilling life. Joining Dr. Oz were a number of prominent health experts, including best-selling authors and TV personalities. Topics included were fitness, nutrition, beauty and sleep, sound mind and body, to name a few.
Held at Radio City Music Hall, MB Productions was able to reflect the holistic intention of the summit providing an all encompassing service of lighting, video and audio packages. To emphasize the high flying theme of a journey, footage of a soaring airplane was displayed on the house’s large 60 ft. LED screen. This was a precursor to the cockpit set and its theatrical rise from the stage floor. With it came Dr. Oz dressed as the pilot, who received the enthusiastic applause of the soldout crowd.
The critical mission was the limited timeline to execute load-in, set-up and to be ready for rehearsal at Radio City. To ensure a smooth production, the crew spent extensive time during the pre-production. Stepping up to the challenge was MB’s Director of Production Jeff Friedman. “Time well spent in meticulous planning ensured we met the tight schedule and most importantly a successful show.”
The high profile performers were captured with MB Production’s Sony HXC-100 HD Camera flypack. Configured with four heads, 35 ft jib arm and 66x for the main Front of House position, this system provided IMAG on the house LED Screens and HD recording as Apple Pro Res for future web casting. Brian Brooks, President of MB productions explains, “While we have always been known in the industry for our excellence in video staging, now our services expand so that we are ‘one stop shopping’ for our clients’ needs.”
Working in collaboration with LD Brendan Grey of Grey Matter Visual, the choice was made to go exclusively with moving lights rather than conventional lighting for maximum flexibility and quick set up time. The plot called for 21 VARI-LITE 3500 Wash and seven VARI-LITE 3500 Spots and a pair of Wholehog consoles.
“It was the harmony of full technological support paired with thoughtful preparation, the end result was a trip into the spirit of the health summit and seeing the show fly high,” Brooks said.
