DETROIT —The Detroit Science Center recently opened the Toyota Engineering Theater (TET) with X-4D motion EFX seats, projectors, screens and other gear supplied by MediaMation, Inc.

The 3,500-square-foot circular floorplan is equipped with 167 of MediaMation’s 3DOF servo X-4D motion EFX seats, which simulate scents, rumbles, wind, water and other sensory phenomena.

The TET also features four large screens, rear projectors, lighting and live or prerecorded sound capabilities, also supplied by MMI. The TET can be experienced by up to 300,000 visitors per year to see a mix of live actors, video and real-time animation.

The projection system incorporates the EasyBlend system from Scalable Displays Technologies and Dataton’s Watchout to align colors, brighten shapes and keep images in sync.

“We were impressed by the technical expertise MMI exhibited,” said Todd Slisher, vice president of science programs at the Detroit Science Center, referring to the MMI-supplied SEFX theater at the Lincoln Library in Springfield, Ill.
