Mile High Music Festival Protects Turf with eps Ground Cover

DENVER – The load-in and load-out for the third annual Mile High Music Festival on the soccer fields of Dick's Sporting Goods Park got an assist from eps' heavy-duty Arena Panels ground cover system, which made its U.S. festival debut at the mid-August two-day event. A total of 15,000 square feet of the panels helped protect the turf as 24 soccer fields were transformed into a staging ground for one of the region's largest concert events. Five stages and tents featuring 45 live music acts, including Phoenix, Dave Matthews Band, Weezer and Keane.

Shawn Stokes, facility production manager for Mile High, said the Arena Panels worked better than regular plywood. "We were hoping it would be less complicated and less labor intensive, and we were right," he said.

Under the direction of an eps site supervisor, a small crew and a forklift operator worked over a two-and-a-half week period, from the start of festival construction through to the very end. Working with stage, tent, and festival crews, the team built and rebuilt roads and platforms as the site progressed.

Despite rainy conditions and the need for heavy machinery including tractors, lifts, cranes and semi trucks, the Arena Panels protected the fields and crew with an even surface with ample traction that helped eliminate trip hazards. Arena Panels are bolted together on all sides to help crews roll cases to and from the stages.
