NEW YORK —George Mueller, a co-founder of Color Kinetics, has launched EcoSense Lighting, Inc. and will serve as its founder and chairman. The new company displayed its first series of EcoSense white light products during Lightfair International.
EcoSense products, including PAR, MR and Cove form factors as well as landscape fixtures, are designed to be brighter, more efficient, and to cost less than similar LED-based products. They are also designed to replace conventional light sources in existing housing, using LEDs to minimize heat and UV emissions while extending bulb life to 50,000 hours.
Mueller is the author of over 50 technology patents in the solid-state lighting and other fields. His role with Color Kinetics in 1996 helped propel the adoption of LEDs as an illumination source.
While Color Kinetics made its name with LED fixtures for the colored lighting market, EcoSense will concentrate on the specifier-grade white light LED market, which is projected by Yole Development to surpass $10 billion by the year 2012.
