NEW YORK — No single lighting or scenic designer is likely to dominate the 2012 Tony Awards the way Adele did with the Grammys this year, but there is a double-nominee: Natasha Katz, nominated as LD for both Once (pictured here) and Follies. Other nominees for best lighting design of a musical include Christopher Akerlind, for The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, and Hugh Vanstone, for Ghost, the Musical.
For plays, the nominated LDs include Jeff Croiter (Peter and the Starcatcher), Peter Kaczorowski (The Road to Mecca), Brian MacDevitt (Death of a Salesman) and Kenneth Posner (Other Desert Cities).
Nominated scenic designers include, for musicals, Bob Crowley (Once), Rob Howell and Jon Driscoll (Ghost, the Musical), Tobin Ost and Sven Ortel (Newsies) and George Tsypin (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark).
Scenic design nominees for plays include John Lee Beatty (Other Desert Cities), Daniel Ostling (Clybourne Park), Mark Thompson (One Man, Two Guvnors) and Donyale Werle (Peter and the Starcatcher).
The awards ceremony is set for June 10, 2012 at the Beacon Theatre in New York.
