ZFX, Inc, who provides performer flying services that cover the full spectrum from Broadway to your neighborhood high school, will be bringing flying effects and lots of experience along when they partner up with the cast and crew at Norfolk Virginia’s Governor’s School for the Arts for an exciting performance of Mary Poppins May 23-25, 2014.
Norfolk Virginia’s Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA), established in 1987, offers premiere arts training in six departments: Dance, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Theater & Film, Visual Arts and Vocal Music. Each department trains students to develop in their art form with a focus on conservatory style study. Admission is competitive and includes an audition. Each year about 600 students apply for approximately 130 available spots.
Mary Poppins set designer David Korins, a New York based scenic and production designer for theatre, film, opera, television, concerts and festivals as well and residential and commercial spaces, has Broadway credits that include Motown, Bring It On and Annie.
Chip Gallagher, GSA Department Chair who has been involved with GSA for twenty four years, says this performance of Mary Poppins will offer the audience some unexpected flying effects, “Mary’s grand exit at the end of the show will involve a 110 ‘fly out’ over the audience” Chip told us. The show will also feature somersaulting choreography to the popular song, Step in Time” versus the more common proscenium walk.
