Panic! At The Disco Heads Out with Fresh Design from Luz Studio

KANSAS CITY: Crush Music, the full service music company, came up with the idea of co-headlining two of their artists on a North American summer shed tour with Weezer and Panic! At The Disco. The tour started in Houston,TX on June 10th and will conclude in Irvine, CA on Aug 6th having played to a crowd of half a million people throughout the summer. Luz Studio’s Matthieu Larivée worked in conjunction with Weezer’s LD, Robb Jibbson, to design the touring production package.

More details from Luz Studio (www.luzstudio.net):

The challenge was to come up two complete stage design to distinguish the two bands and share equipment since it’s the nature of the tour. Robb Jibson is in charge of Weezer stage design and Luz Studio is in charge of Panic! At The Disco.   We both worked on our side to come up with a first draft.  Then we sat to figure out how we could merge the 2 designs.  Having an upstage video wall was great for both but we wanted to differentiate the canvas.  So the wall opens, on a manual trolley to reveal the wall of Ayrton Magic Panels for Panic! At The Disco and closes to create a massive video wall for Weezer.

The whole set of Panic! At The Disco needs to tear down in 10 minutes, to setup Weezer’s stage. All Access provided Panic! At The Disco with a unique looking set that could make a visual statement, yet tear down in a few short minutes, no easy feat on a stage this packed with gear.

The Panic! At The Disco show has different features on stage; such 3 horns players, a piano for 2 songs and a rolling drum riser. “We created custom made ramps, with an Art Deco CNC facia to give a slick look and create access to the band and musician to walk on stage. For the piano reveal, the wall of Ayrton Magic Panels opens on a manual trolley and a riser is being pushed with the piano.” says Larivee’.“We have some Robe Patt 2013 fixtures that are mounted on the piano riser, but fit beneath the Magic Panel pods so they are always seen.  They complete the vintage look of the Art Deco facia.” adds Matt.

Upstaging provided the lighting and video elements for the tour. Crew chief Seth Conlin has been doing a great job of looking after both acts and the seamless transition at set change with the lighting and video wall changes.
