PCE Supports “Peter Pan” with Clay Paky, Elation and ETC Gear

LOS ANGELES — LD Michael Gilliam’s design for McCoy-Rigby’s national touring production of Peter Pan is using Clay Paky, Elation and ETC gear provided by Pacific Coast Entertainment (PCE). Clay Paky’s Sharpy fixture is used to represent Tinkerbell. The rig also uses 14 Elation Design Wash 1400E and 16 Power Spot 700 CMY II fixtures.

“This is the first time Pan has gone on national tour with this many moving heads,” said PCE’s Ryan Steidinger. “All of the down light on stage is created with moving heads.”  The makeover has gone over exceptionally well, he reported.  “The producers told me it’s the best lighting they’ve ever had for the show.”

The show’s lighting cues were programmed on an EOS, then transferred to the more compact ION 2000 with a back-up RPU for show control on the road. Power distribution and cabling came from TMB.

Peter Pan’s head electrician, Gary Weintraub and Amy Carr, moving light technician, worked with PCE’s technical staff to get the show ready for the road. Elation  also provided Carr with training. Steidinger noted that, although “Amy’s got a direct line she can pick up and call if she’s got a question, she can do any necessary repairs on the road herself, because she’s gotten all that training.”

Olympic gymnast-turned-actor (and Tony Award nominee) Cathy Rigby, who co-owns the production company with her husband Tom McCoy, has been playing Peter Pan since the early 1990s. The production opened in late August in Hershey, PA and will tour the U.S. through 2013.
