DULUTH, GA — The second Railroad Revival Tour, featuring bands riding vintage rail cars and performing at outdoor venues set up along the train tracks, has been cancelled, according to a message posted on the tour website. The inaugural 2011 tour’s stop in Tempe, AZ is pictured here.
“It is with extreme regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2012 Railroad Revival Tour,” the site, www.railroadrevival.com, announced in early October. “The decision to do so was a difficult one, but it was determined that certain complications would not permit us to host the shows in the manner intended, and that the bands and fans deserved.”
Although no further information was offered, Band of Horses and other artists set to join the tour have already announced changes in their tour schedule. Other acts that had been expected to perform on an eight-show tour running from Oct. 20-28 from Duluth, GA to Oakland, CA included Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson and actor/musician John Reilly and Friends.
The first Railroad Revival Tour was a six-stop jaunt from Oakland, CA to New Orleans April 21-27, 2011 that included performances by Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show. That rail trip was preserved on a documentary titled Big Easy Express.
The original tour dates were: Oct. 20, Duluth, GA, at Southeastern Railway Museum; Oct. 21, TBA; Oct. 22, Memphis, TN, Memphis Central Train Station; Oct. 23, Oklahoma City, Downtown Airpark; Oct. 24, Old Town Spring, TX; Oct. 26, Tempe, AZ; Oct. 27, San Pedro, CA at Ports O’ Call; Oct. 28, Oakland, CA at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park.
Organizers pledged to issue refunds to ticketholders for the 2012 tour stops by Oct. 21. For more information, go to www.railroadrevival.com.
