NEW YORK — Vince Herbert, head of the Lighting Department for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), which has taken up residency in New York’s Park Avenue Armory this summer, will be on hand to demonstrate RSC Lightlock’s motion stabilizing technology, discuss its evolution, and explain its use in the lighting system installed for the RSC in New York. The event is set for Aug. 2 in the Wade Thompson Drill Hall of the Park Avenue Armory beginning at 2pm. The event is free and open to the first 50 registrants.

In addition to his responsibilities as the head of the RSC’s Lighting Department, and his work in developing the technology of the Lightlock, Herbert has also overseen the reconstruction of the company’s main theatre and home at Stratford-upon-Avon in the U.K. The unique lighting needs of this reinvention of one of the world’s best known theatres was the inspiration for the RSC Lightlock.

In addition to learning more about the background of Lightlock, attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss the design process of the performance space at Stratford-upon-Avon and about the challenges in shipping a theatre across an ocean and assembling it in New York City.
