Sandy Audio Visual, PA+ Plan Elaborate Setup for Nov. 3 Event in Toronto

TORONTO —Sandy Audio Visual (SAV) and PA+ are planning an elaborate setup to support the technical needs of the Grand Musical Evening planned for Rogers Center here on Nov. 3. Indian film composer, singer and lyricist Maestro Dr. Ilaiyaraja will lead more than 100 Western and South Asian musical artists on stage. The lighting rig will include 69 Martin MAC 2000 Wash fixtures, 53 MAC 2000 Profiles, 71 MAC 101s, 20 Atomic 3000 Strobes and five MAC 600s, with two grandMA2 consoles for control. The production will also feature a 50 foot (15.25 meter) Martin LC LED wall.

Dr.Ilaiyaraja is known by the title ‘Isaignani’ in Tamil, which means Maestro. He has won four Indian National Film Awards; three for Best Music Direction and one for Best Background Score. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award from the Government of India. His works are mainly in Tamil, but has also scored music for numerous films in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and Marathi. He is the first South Asia-based composer to create a full symphony performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in England. An Ilaiyaraja composition, Naanthaan Ungappanda, was also heard during the opening ceremony of 2012 London Olympics.

Along with the aforementioned fixtures, Lycian M2 2.5K followspots and 10 FE 20 Light MR16 blinders round out the lighting rig. The in-house I-Mag package will have five video screens, and video recording for broadcast will be supported by a full HD broadcast truck. The event is expected to draw over 38,000 people.
