DALLAS—Serapid LinkLift mechanical lift columns have been installed at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theater as well as the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center. At the Wyly Theater, the lift columns are incorporated into the unique performance space to allow directors to change the configuration of the all-glass, vertically stacked building at the push of a button.
Serapid’s scope of supply for the Wyly Theater includes 46 LinkLift telescopic lifting columns to support the proscenium lift, seating wagon lift, six seat configuration lifts, six turntables, and 12 seating riser lifts.
The Proscenium Lift Platform is 216 square feet, with a travel distance of 36 feet. The Seating Wagon Lift Platform is 432 square feet with a travel distance of five feet. The Seat Configuration Lift Platforms are 81 square feet each with eight feet and four feet of travel. The Turntable Platforms are nine feet in diameter, and the Seating Riser Platforms are 27 square feet each with three feet of travel.
At the horeshoe-shaped Winspear Opera House, the lift columns are incorporated to allow for a quick switch between opera and musical theatre to dance performances.
Serapid provided 12 lift columns for the two proscenium lift and one sound cockpit lift. The upstage proscenium lift is 390 square feet and the downstage is 550, while the cockpit lift is 175 square feet. The maximum stroke is 20 feet, six inches.
The lifts in both venues are comprised of Serapid LinkLift columns, which feature square links that work like building blocks to form a tower stack. The shape and locking technique make it capable of extra-high rigidity and strength.
