TIMONIUM, MD – Maryland had a serious case of "Bieber Fever" over Labor Day weekend as Justin Bieber and his My World 2.0 tour came to the infield of the Timonium Race Track at the state fairgrounds. To prepare for an enthusiastic audience of 12,500, the production brought in eps' heavy-duty GIGS barricades. More than 600 feet of barricade was positioned to keep legions of screaming fans safe and secure during the highlight concert of the State Fair, which also featured young acts Sean Kingston and Vita Chambers. Thousands of eager Justin Bieber fans – some of whom lined up for entry the night before – created safety concerns for State Fair security. To prevent incidents during the Sunday evening show, eps' GIGS barriers were strategically positioned to minimize risk.
The barricades included straight, curved, and gated units, to form break lines in two directions and alleviate crowd pressure at the sold-out concert. Their configuration also created much needed passageway space for security personnel – who were able to pull out concertgoers with the help of integrated steps on the back side.
Real security issues are presented at concerts like these, as an overwhelming number of young fans try to get close to the teen sensation. "This kind of event is where our barricades really get a chance to shine," says Lutz Meessen, project manager for eps.
The modular GIGS units were assembled and disassembled by an eps supervisor with the help of a small onsite crew, and the lightweight aluminum construction allowed this work to be done quickly and easily.
