PHILADELPHIA – Starlite Productions is providing gear to support local artist Meg Saligman, who is bringing attention to the problem of homelessness at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul (pictured here), a key focal point for both the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia (Sept. 21-24) and Pope Francis’ visit to the city (Sept. 26-27).

More details from Starlite (www.starlite.com):

Starlite and local artist, Meg Saligman have been working closely on a projection project that will They plan to project video content onto the Cathedral’s aqua oxidized-copper dome during the Papal visit. To ensure a successful event, the crew has been non-stop with testing the equipment and technology.

“We’re so excited to be working with Meg and Project Hope on this installation. Meg’s vision is inspiring and the energy she brings to everything she does is contagious,” says Jason Danowitz, VP of show technology.

As far as technology, Starlite will be using a 40k lumen Barco HDQ projector and a Hippotizer V4 media server for the project. Starlite and Saligman also enlisted digital content providers, Blue Pony, to assist with the creation of the custom video imagery.

“As you would expect there are many logistical challenges we’re facing with a project like this,” stated Danowitz, “the dome is oxidized copper, which throws off the color rendering, but the Hippotizer has been key in helping us deliver the video content accurately and handle the necessary color correction and warping.”

In addition, Starlite also worked with Saligman on lighting her exhibit at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Philadelphia. The exhibit, “Untie the Knots: A Contemporary Grotto”, is a citywide public art project that houses more than 30,000 knots that each represent a personal hardship or societal challenge. The project that opened on September 3rd will continue to run until the end of September.

The Papal Visit in Philadelphia is scheduled for September 26-27.
