NEW YORK CITY – The American Theatre Wing recently announced names of special award winners at the 2015 Tony Awards, the hosts of the ceremony, and the nominees of competitive categories.

Taking home the most nominations were the musicals An American in Paris and Fun Home, with 12 each. (Followed closely by Something Rotten!, with 10.) For plays, Wolf Hall led the pack with eight nominations, followed closely by Skylight (seven) and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (6). The four Best Musical nominees are: An American in Paris, Fun Home, Something Rotten!, and The Visit. The Best Play nominees are: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Disgraced, Hand to God, and Wolf Hall Parts One & Two.
In addition to the two special awards mentioned above, Stephen Schwartz will receive the 2015 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award honoring his commitment to serving artists and fostering new talent through his work with ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop, ASCAP Foundation and helping develop new partnerships as President of the Dramatists Guild.
Finally, nine-time Tony Award winner and Broadway icon Tommy Tune will be this year’s recipient of the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.

2015 TONY AWARD® NOMINATIONS
Nominations in 24 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing’s 69th Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® were announced today by Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award-winning Actress Mary-Louise Parker, who will be starring in the upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club production of HEISENBERG this May, and Emmy and Golden Globe Winner Bruce Willis, who will make his Broadway debut next season in the new play MISERY, at the Tony Award Nominations ceremony sponsored by IBM. The nominees were selected by an independent committee of 38 theatre professionals appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. Tony Award winners Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming will host the 2015 Tony Awards which will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS, on Sunday, June 7th, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay).
Emmy and Tony Award winning actress and singer, Kristin Chenoweth is currently appearing on Broadway, playing the glamorous film star, Lily Garland, in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s On the Twentieth Century, which received rave reviews. She may be most remembered by Broadway lovers everywhere for her origination of the role of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, which earned her a Tony Award Nomination, and her Tony-winning performance in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Chenoweth co-starred in the film The Boy Next Door and she starred as a poisonous frog named Gabi in the hit animated film Rio 2. She can be seen in the indie teen drama entitled Hard Sell and the Disney Channel’s live-action original movie Descendants, in which she will play the classic Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent. Chenoweth received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the ABC series Pushing Daisies. Chenoweth was nominated for two Emmy Awards for her role on Fox’s hit comedy, Glee. She has also appeared on hit shows such as The West Wing, The Good Wife and American Idol. Other stage credits include Epic Proportions; Promises, Promises; Love Loss and What I Wore, Scapin; Steel Pier; Apple Tree; Music in the Air; Stairway to Paradise and others. Chenoweth has also performed to sold-out crowds around the world – with performances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Australia’s Sydney Opera House, and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in which she was also inducted into their Hall of Fame. She will continue touring later this year. Chenoweth hosted the PBS Arts Fall Festival, featuring her own concert, Kristin Chenoweth: Coming Home, where she performed a career-spanning concert in her hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The concert was released as a live CD and DVD, and aired as a PBS television. It’s no secret that Kristin wears her heart on her sleeve when it comes to her love of theater, which was the catalyst for her charity partnership with the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center (BA PAC) Foundation in her home town in Oklahoma. Chenoweth is an inductee into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, as well as the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. This year, Chenoweth will be receiving a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of live performances on stage or in the theatre. Chenoweth wrote a candid, comedic chronicle of her life, A Little Bit Wicked which debuted at # 12 on the New York Times Hardcover Non-Fiction Best Seller List.
Alan Cumming is an actor and activist beyond eclectic and according to the New York Times ‘a bawdy countercultural sprite’; Time Magazine named him one of the most fun people in show business; He plays political maverick Eli Gold on CBS’s The Good Wife, for which he received Golden Globe, Emmy, SAG and Satellite award nominations and earlier this year finished his Tony Award-winning role of the Emcee in the Broadway musical Cabaret. Last season, he performed a sensational one man production of Macbeth at the Barrymore Theater. Alan’s diverse career has found him performing at venues around the globe including the Sydney Opera House; making back to back films with Stanley Kubrick and The Spice Girls; directing and starring in a musical condom commercial; creating voices of a Smurf, a goat and Hitler; entering upside down and suspended by his ankles in a Greek tragedy (in the National Theatre of Scotland’s The Bacchae); and recording an award-winning album of songs (plus a dance remix). Alan is also Host of PBS’s Masterpiece Mystery and appears opposite Lisa Kudrow in Showtime’s Web Therapy. Alan has written for The New York Times, Newsweek, Harper’s Bazaar, Out, has a bi-monthly column for Globe and Mail, and two books; Tommy’s Tale and his New York Times Best-Selling memoir, Not My Father’s Son. A tireless champion for LGBT civil rights and HIV/AIDS, Alan serves on the Board of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and works closely with amfAR, The Trevor Project and the Ali Forney Center to name but a few. In 2009, Alan was made an OBE in the Queen’s Honors List and by his homeland, Scotland, for which he was a vocal supporter of the YES for independence campaign, he has been awarded the Great Scot and Icon of Scotland awards, as well as recently having his portrait unveiled at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery as seen on the finale of Portrait Artist of the Year.
As previously announced, the 2015 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented to Tommy Tune and the Isabelle Stevenson Award will be presented to Stephen Schwartz. The 2015 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre will be presented to Scenic Artist Arnold Abramson; press agent Adrian Bryan-Brown; and theatre technician Gene O’Donovan. This year the Tony Award Administration Committee will present a Special Tony Award to John Cameron Mitchell.
Each year, the Tony Awards Administration Committee presents a Tony Award to a regional theatre on the recommendation of the American Theatre Critics Association. The 2015 Regional Theatre Award will be presented to Cleveland Play House.

New York, NY (April 27, 2015) – The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced that John Cameron Mitchell will receive the 2015 Special Tony Award.
“John’s return to ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ is one for the history books. He not only wrote and co-created the role with Stephen Trask – before directing and starring in the film – but returned to Broadway to star as Hedwig this season after a series of rave performances by Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells and Michael C. Hall. This is a remarkable undertaking, and we are honored to recognize his outstanding success with this honor,” Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing, and Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, said.
John Cameron Mitchell’s New York stage appearances included Broadway’s Big River, and the original casts of The Secret Garden (Drama Desk nomination) and Six Degrees of Separation. Off-Broadway: Larry Kramer’s The Destiny of Me (Obie Award and Drama Desk nom.) and Michael John LaChiusa’s Hello Again (Drama Desk nom.). He adapted and directed Tennessee Williams’ Kingdom of Earth starring Cynthia Nixon and Peter Sarsgaard and starred in and wrote the book for the 1998 Off-Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (directed by Peter Askin) for which he won an Obie Award along with co-creator/songwriter Stephen Trask. The film adaptation (2001) won him Best Director at Sundance and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. The Tony Awards® Announce the Cleveland Play House as 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award Recipient
New York, NY (April 24, 2015) – The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced this year’s recipient for the Regional Theatre Tony Award is Cleveland Play House in Cleveland, OH.
The Regional Theatre Tony Award will be presented at the 2015 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 7th. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
“Cleveland Play House is an exemplary institution in the American theatrical landscape with its long history of successful seasons and its commitment to fostering the next generation of playwrights and actors. Founded in 1915, Cleveland Play House (CPH) has entertained 12 million people in its more than 1,600 productions. CPH will stage its 100th consecutive season in 2015-16, an unprecedented milestone in American theatre. Led by Artistic Director Laura Kepley and Managing Director Kevin Moore, CPH showcases the best in contemporary playwriting and fresh, imaginative productions of classics. In Kepley’s words: CPH strives to be “welcoming, fun, provocative, thrilling and necessary.” CPH has long championed new work, having produced Tennessee Williams even before The Glass Menagerie. Recent premieres include plays by Deborah Zoe Laufer, Lee Blessing, Ken Ludwig and Eric Coble; developmental workshops of plays by Jordan Harrison, Heidi Schreck, and Pulitzer-prize winner Quiara Alegría Hudes (who is also working on a commission to be premiered in the Centennial Season); and originated the 2013 pre-Broadway national tour of A Night With Janis Joplin. Education programs are of paramount importance to CPH and have been for decades, with alumni ranging from Tony Award-winner Joel Grey to Case Western Reserve University / CPH MFA alum and 2011 Tony-nominee Elizabeth A. The Tony Awards® Announce Stephen Schwartz as the 2015 Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award Recipient
New York, NY (April 27, 2015) – The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced Stephen Schwartz as this year’s recipient for the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award.
The Isabelle Stevenson Award is presented annually to a member of the theatre community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations. Stephen Schwartz will be presented the Award for his commitment to serving artists and fostering new talent through his work with ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop, ASCAP Foundation and helping develop new partnerships as President of the Dramatists Guild.
“Stephen’s successes span far beyond the Broadway stage through his commitment to fostering the next generation of musical theatre actors, lyricists and composers. We are thrilled to celebrate his countless triumphs with this honor,” Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing, said.
Schwartz began his Broadway career in 1969 with the title song for Butterflies Are Free. Since then, he has become known for his music and lyrics for such shows as Godspell, Pippin and Wicked. But he has also worked on many projects of educational, charitable and social value to the theatre community.
For the past six years, as President of the Dramatists Guild, he has worked to strengthen and protect the rights of American dramatists, including battling censorship and piracy and improving the relationship between writers and directors, actors and producers.
As a long-standing board member of the ASCAP Foundation, he has served as artistic director of the Musical Theatre Workshops in New York and Los Angeles for more than 20 years, nurturing many of the young composers and lyricists working in the theatre today. He has also brought the ASCAP workshop to multiple cities around the country, as well as conducting frequent master classes at universities and regional theatres for aspiring writers and performers. Internationally, Schwartz has done master classes for musical theatre writers and performers in such countries as Germany, Australia, Latvia and Kenya.
In response to recent teen suicides, he wrote the choral piece “Testimony” and helped produce the choral piece “Tyler’s Suite”, both performed frequently in anti-bullying campaigns in schools around the country.
His other charitable work has included organizing last fall’s Uprising of Love concert at the Gershwin Theatre to benefit and raise awareness of LGBT people in hostile countries, producing benefits for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Faustman Clinic, and appearing in benefits for such causes as the Sandy Hook families, Marriage Equality, the Orphaned Starfish Foundation, the Gender and Family Project, etc.

New York, New York (April 2, 2015) – The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced nine-time Tony Award winner and Broadway icon Tommy Tune as this year’s recipient for the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
The Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented at the 2015 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 7th. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
Tommy Tune is one of the country’s most prolific performer/director/choreographers and is celebrating his golden decade on the great American stage. He has received 9 Tony Awards, The National Medal of Arts, 8 Drama Desk Awards, 3 Astaire Awards, and multiple Life Time Achievement Awards including the Society of Directors and Choreographers’ George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement. A native Texan, Mr. Tune began his career as a dancer in the Broadway shows Baker Street, A Joyful Noise and How Now Dow Jones. He has received nine competitive Tony Awards to date, for The Will Rogers Follies (Direction and Choreography), Grand Hotel (Direction and Choreography), My One and Only (Actor in a Musical and Choreography), Nine (Direction), A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine (Choreography), and Seesaw (Featured Actor in a Musical). He was nominated four additional times for his work on My One and Only (Direction), A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine (Direction), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Direction and Choreography)—making 13 Tony nominations in total. Film credits include Hello Dolly, The Boy Friend, and Mimi Bluette…fiore del mio giardino, and in 1999, he made his Las Vegas debut as the star of EFX at the MGM Grand Hotel.
