Two Killed, Four Injured in Alabama Pyro Factory Accident

OWENS CROSS ROADS, AL — A Feb. 6 explosion at a pyro factory near Huntsville, AL operated by Ultratec Special Effects left two dead and four injured. One of the injured was hospitalized in critical condition; the other three reportedly received minor injuries. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and OSHA officials are investigating the accident.

Ultratec Special Effects issued the following statement on its website, www.ultratecfx.com:

“Earlier today, we experienced a serious incident at our facility in Huntsville in which two of our team members lost their lives and several more were injured. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to those individuals and their families.”

Noting that “safety is our first priority,” the site also stated that “Ultratec is committed to investigating the incident and will assist local, state and federal officials in determining its cause.

“Our immediate focus is assisting the employees and their families whose loved ones were lost or injured today. Further information about the incident and its cause will be communicated when available and appropriate.
