LOS ANGELES — Two women, aged 18 and 19, died after attending the Hard Summer Music Festival staged at the Los Angeles County Fairplex in Pomona, CA on Aug. 1. Live Nation cited cardiac arrest and a possible seizure as the cause of the two deaths, but reports also quoted a coroner’s official calling the deaths “apparent drug overdoses.”

In separate incidents that coincided shortly before 5 p.m. Aug. 1, both women were found to be unresponsive and rushed to local hospitals. The 18-year-old died at just after 6 p.m.; the 19-year-old succumbed at 8:40 p.m.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is expected to field the question of whether to continue to allow music festivals to take place on county property on Aug. 4, according to reports.

The Hard Summer Music Festival took place Aug. 1-2, 2015, featuring headliners The Weeknd on Aug. 1 and Jack U on Aug. 2. Attendance had reportedly grown from 40,000 to 65,000 per day. The festival organizers also announced a two-stage, one-day event called A Night at the Fairplex, to be held Sept. 10, 2015.
