VH1 Classic’s “That Metal Show” Gets New Look

NEW YORK — For That Metal Show, which is returning for its third season on VH1 Classic, “we steered away from an ‘80s-style set and took the look in an entirely different direction,” said Jeff Baumgardner, show producer. If the set is different, however, the LD is the same. Christopher Landy of Brooklyn-based Vibrant Design LLC is returning to light nine new episodes this season. (The show reunites hosts Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson with guests including the Canadian band, Anvil, Rob Halford, WWE’s Chris Jericho, Steve Vai and Peter Criss.)

The new vibe for the show “is like a Gothic living room,” Baumgardner says. “It’s a sanctuary where the gods of metal can feel entirely at home.

“I always look forward to collaborating with Chris,” Baumgardner added. “He’s an absolute pleasure to work with and hires the best people for his team. Chris really created the mood we wanted.”

To light the set, Landy assembled a conservative package of conventional lighting fixtures, including six 2K Softlights; a variety of Fresnels (six 2K, one 5K, 16 1K, six 650-watt and four 300-watt fixtures); 32 ETC Source Four Lekos; 16 ETC Source Four PARs; and six 75-watt Birdies.

Adam Heydt and Julie LoRusso directed That Metal Show’s third season, with Lee Rolontz and Keshia Williams serving as executive producers.
