GUNNISON, CO – Adam Babb, an AV and acoustical consultant for Geiler and Associates, chose a 28-foot-wide Perlux 180 screen from Harkness Screens for the new 3D digital cinema at Western State College's student center. The screen, with a custom curved MF Wrap Frame, was for the 3D cinema project made possible through a $1.5 million donation from the Prosser family. Slaterpaull Architects chose Geiler and Associates for the 3D digital cinema project, and Geiler and Associates chose Harkness Screens, based on expectations of meeting the project's timeline, budget and quality requirements.
"Andy McGarrity, project superintendant for Nunn Construction, and I were impressed with Harkness' flexibility and responsiveness to our construction schedule," said Babb, who called their service " excellent. When the construction schedule was expedited to accommodate a theater opening with the release of Avatar, they assured us that our order would be received when required and Harkness delivered on that promise."
The Harkness Perlux screen is designed to be well-suited for 3D applications which are, by nature, lower in light output than 2D applications, by offering favorable gain characteristics, contrast, brightness, viewing angles and color temperature.
"This much desired amenity will benefit both the campus and Gunnison Valley community," said Babb. "The Harkness frame and screen look great," he added.
