BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil — The Axé Brazil festival recently drew some 80,000 people to an arena here over a two-day period. The event, which focuses on the Brazilian music genre known as Axé, featured Brazilian artists Ivete Sangalo, Cláudia Leite, Chiclete Com Banana and Asa De Águia, among others.

The 12-person crew from production company Estação da Luz, working on behalf of promoters DM Promoções e Eventos, provided sound and lighting, and SGM fixtures were well-represented among the moving heads within the lighting rig.

Marcelo Claudio Cesar’s company has been building up an inventory of SGM fixtures, supplied by local distributors Hot Machine, over a number of years. The inventory today now includes 112 Giotto Spot 400, 24 Idea Beam 300 and 12 Ribalta LED color changers.

For his stage lighting design at Axé Brazil, José Lino Silva chose a mixture of SGM spots and washes, favoring bright colors to go with the vibrant rhythms of Axé music. The rig included 70 Giotto Spot 400, 21 Idea Beam 300 and 24 Ribalta LEDs.

The LDs for each group were invited to create their own lighting scenes, programmed and triggered from two grandMA consoles. In all, 12 different light artists created their own looks from the SGM palette, with the Giotto Spot 400 and its effects eliciting praise from the LDs

Project manager Marcelo Claudio Cesar also deemed the event a success. “Hot Machine has been a great partner of Estação da Luz over the years,” he said. “They give us full maintenance support, with spare parts, etc., and always assist with the acquisition of new SGM products.”
