SHANGHAI, China — Barco, Creative Technology and Color Lighting helped create a new look for the opening ceremony for the 11th National Games of the People's Republic of China, also known as the All China Games, including the bowl-shaped projection screen in the center of the stadium. The screen measured 50 meters in diameter with a total height of 26 meters. During the ceremony, glowing “peace doves” lifted the bowl into the air. It was at this point that the bowl was revealed as a large circular projection screen.

Color Lighting served as the lighting supplier for the Games, and chose Creative Technology as their projection and video partner. They used 48 Barco XLM HD30 projectors for projection on the stadium's ”Super Bowl” screen; with an additional eight DML-1200 luminaires for dynamic projection.

With native wide-screen aspect ratio, native 2048 x 1080 resolution and light output of 30,000 center lumens, the XLM HD30 projector was well-suited for the ultra wide-screen and HD projections. Barco’s DML-1200, meanwhile, offered unlimited image selection and the ability to switch between video projection and light mode.

The opening ceremony of the Games was attended by People's Republic of China President Hu Jintao and by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge. The Games featured 33 sports and 360 disciplines with the majority of competition taking place in some 17 cities across Shandong.
