SOCHI, Russia — Several venues to be used Feb. 7-23 for the 2014 Winter Olympics have been equipped with hoists made by Chainmaster. Among the largest: the Bolshoy Ice Dome (pictured here) and the Iceberg Skating Palace, each of which can accommodate 12,000 spectators. Chainmaster, based in Eilenburg, Germany, has been active in Russia and its neighboring countries since 1998. The company opened its Chainmaster Consulting Office Russia in 2004.
The Winter Olympics will feature 98 competitive events in 15 winter sports. The Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee (SOC) has also been competing against the clock in an effort to provide the Olympic Park infrastructure since the group was founded in Oct. 2007.
Within that five-year time frame, SOC has overseen the creation of the 40,000-capacity Fisht Olympic Stadium for opening/closing ceremonies; the 12,000-capacity Bolshoy Ice Dome, for ice hockey; the 12,000-capacity Iceberg Skating Palace, for figure skating, short track speed skating; the 8,000-capacity Adler Arena Skating Center, for speed skating; the 7,000-capacity Shayba Arena, for ice hockey; and the 3,000-capacity Ice Cube Curling Center.
Skiing and snowboard events will also be staged at the nearby Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort.
