SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Chauvet Professional is once again the choice for a new season of ‘Idol Puerto Rico’ show, which airs on Mondays on WAPA-TV. Having opted for Chauvet Professional SparkliteLED Drape backdrop drapes for the show’s first season, Lighting Designer David Ayala specified more than 70 Chauvet Professional fixtures for the current one, including the drapes that he uses as base for his design. Musique Xpress of Puerto Rico provided the luminaires.
“With these drapes I managed to build the most important layer of my design for the television set,” Ayala said of the 10 Chauvet Professional SparkliteLED Drape fixtures. The fully controllable and expandable tri-color LED star field drapes measure nearly 20 ft by 13 ft. “They were my base for color, and furthermore, they played an important role in the scenography.”
For downlighting, Ayala placed 24 Chauvet Professional Q-Wash 260-LED moving heads in four sections of six fixtures each, on truss above the stage. Eight Q-Spot 560-LED moving yokes shoot bright beams from the floor, placed four symmetrically, on each side of the stage, under the side video wall sections. Eight Chauvet Professional Legend 412 pixel-mapping moving yokes, four on each side of the center stage video screen, shine on the stage. “I am very pleased with the performance of the Q-Wash 260-LED fixtures, which are fast, compact and bright; and equally impressed with the Legend 412 and Q-Spot 560-LED lights,” Ayala said.
The columns decorating a side section where competitors wait is bright and colorful due to 12 Chauvet Professional COLORdash Block wash fixtures, which also light the trusses. Six Chauvet DJ Impulse 648 strobe lights work fully on from the floor next to the Chauvet Professional Q-Spot 560-LED moving head fixtures, including one strobe light on Stage B, adjacent to the stage, as TV light. Four Chauvet Professional COLORado 1 VW Tour wash fixtures light the backstage and outdoor shots of participants visiting hometowns or signing autographs.
