LONDON — A demonstration of Clay Paky’s Alpha Spot HPE 1500 took place recently at the Royal Albert Hall. The fixture, which Clay Paky calls its “top spotlight,” is joined in the Alpha range by the Alpha Profile 1500 beam shaper and the Alpha Wash 1500 washlight. The two-part demo included a “live” show, presented by Durham Marenghi using the Alpha Spot HPE 1500 with the rig for the Royal Albert Hall’s Classical Spectacular, which took place the same week at the venue.
The second part of the Clay Paky event was held in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall. It included a closer look at the Alpha 1500 lights with Enrico Caironi, Clay Paky corporate marketing advisor, and Marco Zucchinali, project support technician, on hand to point out product features to a group of trade professionals.
The Classical Spectacular, produced by Raymond Gubbay, combines classical music with a light show. It is held twice a year and is approaching its 20th year, with music that has been performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Choral Society, the London Philharmonic Choir and the Band of the Welsh Guards.
The Classical Spectacular’s LD is Durham Marenghi, and the motorized rig was provided by Stage Electrics. Marenghi deployed 12 Alpha Spot HPE 1500s, eight Alpha Spot HPE 700s, 12 Alpha Beam 700s and 14 Alpha Beam 300s, controlled by a MA Lighting grandMA console.
“The Alpha series and Classical Spectacular make a perfect combination,” Marenghi said. “I could not imagine a better fusion of a most dramatic classical music Son et Lumiere and the products of one of the leading companies in professional lighting, as regards quality, reliability and innovative capacity.”
