“Cloudscapes” in Venice Created, and Lit, with Martin Gear

Share this Post:

VENICE, Italy – Cloudscapes, an indoor cloud display, fills an 800-square-meter room at the Venetian Arsenal during the Architecture Biennale of Venice, which runs through Nov. 21. The cloud is being created and lit for the Transsolar climate engineering firm and Tetsuo Kondo Architects with help from Martin Professional gear. The architectural exhibition, titled People Meet in Architecture,  takes place at various venues in Venice. Transsolar is the only engineering company in the Biennale, and they proposed to create a microclimate in which a cloud can sustain itself.

The creative aim is to provide a space where visitors can experience the characteristics of clouds from below, within and above. Martin Professional worked with Transsolar to illuminate the cloud using Martin Extube linear LED luminaires and Martin Exterior 200 LED projectors. The dynamics of the lighting is controlled via a Martin Maxxyz lighting controller.

The cloud itself is produced with the help of Jem ZR44 Hi-Mass and Magnum 1800. A dry and cooler layer with a higher density below, and a dry and hot layer with a lower density above, keep the cloud floating. (For more, see www.cloudscap.es.)
